Profile
Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) is part of a comprehensive educational institute called Aoyama Gakuin, which includes a kindergarten, an elementary school, a junior/senior high school, and a women's junior college. At each level, we offer excellent education to people with our solid academic foundation that has been enhanced through our unique history. Aoyama Gakuin's history dates from November 1874, when missionaries from the Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States established three small schools, and the institution took its present form in 1949 when Aoyama Gakuin College was established as a comprehensive university. Today, it comprises 11 schools and colleges with both undergraduate and graduate programs. Our 21 departments offer undergraduate degrees, 19master's programs, and 20 doctoral programs. The main campus, located in Aoyama, central Tokyo, is complemented by the Sagamihara Campus in Central Kanagawa, for the College of Science and Engineering, the School of Social Informatics and classes for freshmen and sophomores. Total enrollment is about 20,000. The university has graduated a total of about 170,000 students and employs 1,800 full-time and part-time faculty members who offer a wealth of educational and research opportunities. AGU is accredited by the Japanese University Association. As a vibrant educational and research community, our university maintains active international exchange programs for students and faculty.
