Profile
Tama Art University, founded in 1935, is the oldest private art educational institution in Japan. Ever since its foundation, TAU has encouraged freedom of expression while at the same time stressing the importance of discipline and individual responsibility. By maintaining this balance in the 21st century, the university intends to continue to make a major contribution to art education in Japan.

Environment
There are two campuses, Kaminoge (Setagaya, Tokyo) and Hachioji (30 miles west of central Tokyo). The latter is the main campus, and like other some twenty universities in the same city, is located in rural surroundings.

There are 80 computers in the Media Center available for all students, and the design departments have their own computer rooms.
Student Activities
About 30 clubs provide opportunities for students to share their interests and participate in after-school activities. Clubs play a major part in the biggest event of the year, the school festival, which is held in early November and is open to the public. The school also organizes study tours to Nara and Kyoto every year.
