Profile
Ritsumeikan University is a private co-educational institution with over 30,000 students. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of fields at its Kinugasa (Kyoto) and Biwako-Kusatsu (Shiga) Campuses. Ritsumeikan actively recruits international students in regular degree programs and its short-term Japanese language program. Besides enhancing their academic skills, international students have varied opportunities for cultural exploration and exchange. Regular students also have opportunities to participate in a variety of dynamic study abroad programs, and research and internship projects. The university objective is to nurture students to become professionals, serving the global community in a rapidly transforming world.

Environment
The Kinugasa Campus of Ritsumeikan University is located at the foot of Mt. Kinugasa in the beautiful northwestern region of Kyoto. Adjacent to some of Kyoto's famous temples Ryoanji, Kinkakuji and Toji-in, many of the buildings on this campus offer a magnificent panoramic view of the city of Kyoto. Another one of the Ritsumeikan University campuses, the Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC), is situated in a luxuriously green rural region by Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. This campus is also located near the Biwako Cultural Park Town, which is home to various higher educational institutions. Graced by abundant nature as well as varied educational and research facilities, BKC offers students the opportunity to study and participate in many research activities.

Student Activities
Ritsumeikan has over two hundred student clubs and associations in the field of sports, art and scholarship programs. The annual school festival is a social highlight of each year. Clubrooms and two seminar houses are available for use in student activities.

Japanese Language Courses (reading comprehension, conversation, grammar, kanji and composition), English Language Courses, and Japan Studies Courses (culture, history, geography, economics, business administration, nature, etc.) Information concerning scholarships, career counseling, cultural exchange programs (international sports festival, exchange forums, picnic and farewell party for graduating students), speech contests, outdoor activities, etc.
