*Thank you for the regular newsletters.
I got a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Now I am a lecturer at National University in East Timor.
In this news letter I want say thanks to my professor for of his kindness and effort. I got my Master’s degree to help me in my future. I respect him because he came to visit me in East Timor on 28 January 2010 and returned to Japan on 3 February 2010. Then, he retired last March, but I still need his advice.
Thank you to the Japanese government and thank you to the Japanese people.

Marfim Guimaraes (East Timor)

*This past year studying in Japan was so much fun. I not only studied Japanese, but also experienced various things, made friends and went lots of places with everyone. At first I was worried because I was a little anxious about studying in Japan, but my friends and family back home gave me the courage I needed by supporting me. Then I met a lot of good friends and teachers. Getting a scholarship was also a big help. I am so happy to have been recognized. Thank you very much.

I am still an international student. I will continue to do my best so as to make my dreams come true.

Huang YongXiang (Taiwan)

*I am Tahira Mammadova from Azerbaijan. I graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2009. I got my Master’s Degree in Sustainability Science.
I have learned a lot in Japan. I was amazed by Japanese tradition and culture and people's kindness. Japan is the ideal country to study and experience the tradition and feel the presence of history. Japan is my favorite land and I will be back again and again.

Thank you very much.

With kind regards,

Tahira Mammadova (Azerbaijan)

[From the Editor]

I went to a restaurant with a friend the other day. The waitress serving my table had just started working there that day. The way she took notes on her senior co-worker’s advice and devoted herself to learning the job made a big impression on me. I could feel her nervousness and enthusiasm.
I suddenly recalled the expression, “Don’t forget how you felt at first.” In Japan, a new semester and academic year start in April. While everyone starting to study abroad in Japan or moving back to their home countries will get used to their new school or work, it may also be a time when they feel stressed and tired.
Some things are tough, but do your best and don’t forget your initial enthusiasm! When I saw the waitress working hard, I was reminded that I can’t forget how I first felt and that I have to do my best every day. If you discover something new, tell us at the Japan Alumni eNews editorial department. Send us pictures of your life studying abroad and your thoughts on the newsletter. The next Japan Alumni eNews will be sent on September 10th. Keep an eye out for it!
