NIHN Fellowship Program for Asian Researchers 2009-2010

  • Summary: This program is hosted by the National Institute of Health and Nutrition (NIHN), an Incroporated Administrative Agency, to promote international collaboration between Asian countries. It aims to support the acquisition and improvement by young foreign researchers of knowledge and skills relating to health and nutrition through working with host researchers at the NIHN.

  • Summary:
    a) Foreign Visitors Fellowship Program

    The SRC invites three foreign scholars every year to stay for some 10 months to facilitate research and to promote international exchange. Although visiting foreign fellows are engaged in their own research, they are asked to participate in joint projects and conferences as members of the SRC. This program is open to all scholars, and every year the selection is made among more 50 applicants from all over the world.
    b) 21st Century COE Program Foreign Visitors Fellowship Program
    In addition, when particular funds such as those for the COE Program are available, foreign visitors are invited for two to three months. This short-term foreign visitors fellowship program is also open to all scholars.

API Fellowships (The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals)

  • Summary:The API Fellowships aim to promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals and contribute to the growth of the wider public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated. To this end, maximum of 6 people are chosen annually from each of the five nations of Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.   • Summary: Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. has established the "Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award" since 2004 with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of chemistry and the chemical industry. In particular, this award is designed to recognize researchers who have made outstanding achievements in catalysis science.

    Those eligible for the "Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award" and the "Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award of Encouragement" are researchers belonging to institutions of higher learning or public research institutes, who are aged forty-five (45) years or younger and thirty-five (35) years or younger, respectively, and pursuing catalysis science research involving polymerization catalysts, fine synthesis catalysts or other catalysts contributing to environmental protection.

INPEX Scholarship

  • Summary:  INPEX Scholarship Foundation was founded in March 26, 1981 supported by donated fund of 500,000,000 yen by INPEX Corporation (which was named Indonesia Petroleum Co. at that time), a Tokyo based oil exploration company, to promote mutual understanding, friendship and goodwill by exchange of education, art and natural sciences through the scholarship program between Indonesia and Japan.
    The main program is to offer scholarship awards to Indonesian youths, who have graduated from universities in Indonesia and live in Indonesia, and who wish to study the subjects in the fields of natural science in the Graduate School of Universities in Japan for Master’s Degree, and to offer scholarship awards to Japanese youths also who wish to study in Indonesia.
    Nationality of the Republic of Indonesia (not more than 30 years of age, GPA: more than 3.0, Government employee recommended by SEKNEG and accepted by academic supervisor of Japanese University as his student at the University shall be given priority in Selection.), Japanese (not more than 35 years of age)

Matsushita International Foundation Scholarship

  • Summary:  The foundation provides funding for foreign students to study in Japan with the intention of training them in a way that develops high intercultural awareness and makes them capable of playing a leading role in future international relations.
    The major program of this activity is the scholarship for students from Asia studying at the International University of Japan, which was started in 1989.

 

Research Grant

  • Summary:  The funds are provided to assist original and challenging international research which meets social as well as academic demands in the fields of humanities and social sciences. The foundation takes applications from students of doctoral courses and researchers within five years after finishing doctoral course, and reviews them in the screening committee once a year.

The Science and Technology Foundation of Japan (JSTF)

Japan Prize

  • Summary:  The Japan Prize is awarded to people from all parts of the world whose original and outstanding achievements in science and technology are recognized as having advanced the frontiers of knowledge and served the cause of peace and prosperity for mankind.
    No distinction is made as to nationality, occupation, race or sex. Only living persons may be named.
    Fields of study for the prize encompass all categories of science and technology, with two fields designated for the prize each year in consideration of developments in science and technology.
    Each Japan Prize laureate receives a certificate of merit and a commemorative medal. A cash award of 50 million yen is also presented for each prize category. The award is intended for a single person, in principle, but small groups of researchers are also eligible.
    Scientist from whom the Foundation considers it appropriate to the nominations of candidates.
    A self-nomination cannot be accepted.

Panasonic Scholarship

  • Summary:   The Panasonic Scholarship Program was established in 1998 in commemoration of the company's 80th anniversary as a way for the company to express its appreciation to society. Its aim is to provide scholarship opportunities to privately financed students from Asian countries who wish to pursue a master's course in Japan, to offer financial assistance to foster highly educated experts who can contribute to the development of their countries in the 21st century, and to promote mutual friendship between their home countries and Japan. Students must major in any one of the science and technology disciplines, however, this excludes medical science, pharmacology and dentistry.

    Applicants must be citizens of the following countries and area. - China, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam - Applicants must apply for this program in the application countries and area, and must be able to take all procedures for the selection in the application countries and area. International Research Center for Japanese Studies

Visiting Research Scholar (Team Research Organizer) 2010-2011

  • Summary: The International Research Center for Japanese Studies is one of the constituent institutions of the National Institutes for the Humanities, which was established as an Inter-University Research In-stitute Corporation under a law effective April 2004. Founded in May 1987 as an inter-university research institute of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, this Center seeks to promote comprehensive, international, and interdisciplinary research on Japanese culture, and to foster cooperation among researchers in Japanese studies worldwide. In order to broaden and deepen research on Japanese culture, and bring together researchers in a variety of specialized fields, the Center has adopted the format of the “team research project” (Kyodo Kenkyu).
    The Center is seeking a visiting research scholar to plan and organize a one-year team research project starting from the Japanese academic year 2010(April)-2011(March) focusing on some imagi-native and significant research theme.

 

Visiting Research Scholar

  • Summary: The Center invites applications from scholars who wish to conduct research while in residence here. Visiting Research Scholars are expected to engage in collaborative activity with the Center's permanent faculty by, for example, participating in at least one of our team research projects ("kyôdô kenkyû").
