<Follow-up Research Fellowship>
| Period | November 29, 2006 ~ February 26, 2007 (90days) |
| Host University | The University of Tokyo |
| Research Topic | A Comparative Study on the Modern Architecture between Japan and China |
| Current Situation (Research activities, Researcher exchange, etc) | While I was a doctoral student, I researched many traditional villages to clarify the spatial concepts displayed in composition of settlements. Concretely speaking, I studied how to develop methods to quantify and to typify surveys of settlement layouts based on various indices. At present, I base at Center for Landscape Architecture and Planning of Peking University, teach architectural design, and practice planning activities. During my stay using the program, I had hands-on experiences to see contemporary architecture of Tokyo metropolitan area and Keihan area, surveyed their design characteristics and their harmony with surrounding environments, and analyzed composition of their space. Through my studies, I have learned and re-acknowledged Japan’s urban development and design methods of architecture. I was also able to compare contemporary architectural design of both China and Japan and clarified their affinities and differences. |
| Impression of this program | First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the program. It has been 5 years since I returned to China after having had studied 10 years in Japan. Thanks to the program, I had an opportunity to report my advisor and colleagues what I have done for the past 5 years. This was also an excellent opportunity for me to find and rediscover new directions of Japan’s urban construction and architecture. I have compared contemporary architectural designs between China and Japan. This comparison helped me to study Japan’s contemporary architectural design once more and to re-acknowledge current conditions of Chinese architecture and directions of growth for future |
<Study in Japan>
| Why did you decide to study in Japan? | I thought of studying in Japan 15 years ago. At the time, Japan’s architectural designs and trends were at the centre of the world, and numerous highly capable architects and their excellent works were drawing attentions from all over the world. China of the time just started to reform, to open up to the outside world, and to appreciate contemporary architecture. When I was a junior at university, I learned Japanese architecture through architectural magazines which were imported to China for the first time, and came to really like Japanese contemporary architecture that was contemporary, but showed traditional Japanese cultures at the same time. I then was really interested in the process of designing for those architectures and decided to study in Japan. |

| Educational Background in Japan | Period | October, 1995 ~ September, 1998 |
| University | Saitama University Graduate School of Science and Engineering |
|
| Major Field | Civil and Environmental Engineering | |
| Degree Acquired | Doctorate | |

<Follow-up Research Fellowship>
| Period | September 23, 2006 ~ December 20, 2006 (89days) |
| Host University | Saitama University |
| Research Topic | Modeling Pollutants Transport in Structured Unsaturated Soils |
| Research Activities | The movement of pollutants through the soil to groundwater or discharged to surface waters represents a degradation of these resources. Multiple sample percolation systems are excellent means to obtain accurate values of the solute and water flux in structured unsaturated soil experiments. Experiments will be conducted to investigate the impacts of soil structure on pollutants transport. The collected data will be used the Genetic Algorithms (GA) technique to get the solute transport coefficients. The mathematical models that will be considered in this investigation are the advective-dispersion equation with a reaction term (ADR) and a two-region preferential flow model (TRM) suitable for modeling nonequilibrium transport. |
| Impression of this program | This program provides me a good chance to follow the recent research topics in Japan that relate to my speciality. However, the period is too short to conduct a completed pioneer research work with a fruitful results. I could learn more about the new research techniques and discuss with my professor and got his opinion in different matters related to my future research in my country. |
<Study in Japan>
| How is your relationship with Japan after returning to your country? | After returning back to my country I shall try to apply in my field some of the ideas which I learned through my staying in Japan. Also, I will try to teach some of the numerical modeling methods to my postgraduate and undergraduate students in my university. In future, I am looking for a chance to continue the cooperation between my side and the Japanese professors and scientists to be able to enrich my field with the International experience. |

<Follow-up Research Fellowship>
| Period | August 30, 2006~ November 27, 2006 (90days) |
| Host University | Hiroshima University |
| Research Topic | Phosphorus use efficiency (PUE) of maize in low P supplying soil |
| Research Activities | During doctoral research, I worked on the dynamics soil microbial biomass C, N, and S, their interrelationships and the role of biomass S on plant growth .The decomposition of organic materials such as glucose, cellulose, different types of composts, development of microbial biomass was examined. Currently, I have been focusing my research activities on plant nutrition particularly N,P and S, microbial decomposition and nutrient release pattern of organic materials like plant and animal residue, forest litters, organic wastes and their effect on the growth yield and quality of field and vegetable crops. |
| Impression of this program | I am very much impressed with this program. This program creates an opportunity to exchange research ideas and views between the researchers of two countries after a gap of long five years. I have got the scope to learn the progress of researches in the laboratory where I did my Ph.D. five years ago. In contrast I can also let the host researcher know about the progress and achievements of my research after going back to my country during this period. I sincerely express my gratitude to JASSO giving me a chance to exchange research ideas between Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh and Hiroshima University, Japan. |
<Study in Japan>
| Memories about study in Japan / Impression about Japan | I have some sweet memories during my study in Japan. I visited most of the beautiful cities of Japan along with my family. Among the cities, Sapporo was exceptionally beautiful city. My daughters were studying at "Takayanishi shogakko" where we have lots of memories. My wife, daughters and I had numerous Japanese friends where we used to visit their house at the weekend and they also visited our apartment at Nishitakaya. Fortunately my wife gave birth a son one month prior to leaving Japan. Our impression was very good about Japan. Japanese are honest, kind, laborious, and devoted to their duties and responsibilities. Japan is a very safe country. Rule of law are equal for everybody which impressed me a lot. Gents and ladies are also treated equally in every spheres of Japanese society. Finally I would like to say that Japan is a very beautiful country of the world. |
