The 21st Century is referred to as the "Age of Knowledge".
In order for the country to flourish and secure a basis for its existence within the international community, as well as assuming responsibility therein, Japan must put together a sound intellectual infrastructure with utmost urgency.
Tokyo Academic Park was created to meet these needs and demands of the "Age of Knowledge" as a cultural hub of intellectual exchange. Designed to attract wisdom from across the world and to also spawn new innovations, the Park opened in July 2001 in the Tokyo Waterfront region and boasts one of the world's most-advanced urban-type infrastructure.
At the core of Tokyo Academic Park are three key concepts: international exchange, information dissemination, and an alliance with industry, academic and government sectors. Each concept is represented by, Tokyo International Exchange Center, National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and AIST Tokyo Waterfront, respectively.
By combining these three assets, the Park aims to: promote exchange and bring together advanced intellectual information, develop new ideas and technologies, organize a global information network of advanced knowledge, and train leaders with a global perspective. Through this pursuit, Tokyo Academic Park wishes to play a part in the advancement of humankind for a better society.
