Update on January 7, 2009
Some errors were found in the Science questions (chemistry) (full marks of 100) in the Japanese and English versions of the 2007 EJU (2nd Session) which was conducted on Sunday, November 11, 2007.
Two problems were pointed out due to the mistranslation of a supplementary term (technical jargon translated into English) as follows. Firstly, two different correct answers were brought out in the Japanese version, the one with the Japanese language as well as the other one with its supplementary term. Secondly, a question of the English version induced a correct answer which was against the original intention of the question.
Therefore, JASSO added 5 points respectively to all the examinees who gave the right answer led by the supplementary term in the Japanese version, and also to those who gave the right answer led by the mistranslated supplementary term in the English version. In addition, we sent the EJU Certificates of Scores on which those results are reflected, to the relevant examinees. Those who get additional scores are 74 examinees in total, 49 in the Japanese version and 25 in the English version. Our organization has already provided the score information to 33 examinees through inquiries by the universities and other higher educational institutions using EJU.
Thus, since the average score and score distribution of Science (chemistry) have been changed, the “EJU Outline of Results” listed in the website of JASSO was also modified.
The questions of the published 2007 EJU (2nd Session) will be changed accordingly as follows.
Because our organization has prepared several sets of the question booklets to deal with the time difference for overseas administration, every examinee who took the Science (chemistry) examination may not be subject to this problem. Nevertheless, on this occasion, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to the examinees as well as the universities and other higher educational institutions.
JASSO will try our best not to repeat this kind of mistake when preparing the EJU questions in the future. Once again, we would like to apologize and appreciate your kind understanding.

In this regard, however, the answer using the Japanese term as well as the answer using the supplementary English will both be treated as the correct answer in this question.
While the answers should be the same in both the Japanese and English versions in principle, the correct answers are different between the Japanese version (Q8, Line 20, p. 85) and the English version (Q8, Line 4, p.180), and therefore, the correct answer table will be modified as follows.
