*I am truly grateful to the people and government of Japan for their generosity to international students like me. I have spent the last six and a half years of my life in your beautiful country where I finished my Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral Fellowship under the auspices of the Japanese Government (MEXT & JSPS).
Dr. Gino C MATIBAG (Philippines)
*Hello. Thank you for the e-mail. Thank you for helping me not forget various things about Japan.
Thin Thiri (Myanmar)
*As I look back, I realize that it has been eight years since I studied abroad in Japan. Thanks to my teachers and friends, I was able to become a government-sponsored international student in Japan in my third year of college. I feel that it was a great honor.
Yang Li (China)
[From the Editor]
Recently, Typhoon Morakot and heavy rain of historic proportions assaulted Taiwan, leaving over 600 people dead or missing, and creating enormous damage. In Japan as well, higher amounts of rain and continued days of little sunlight nationwide, in northern Japan in particular, have affected the growth of rice and vegetables. It would you could say that such abnormal weather has been caused by our failure as humans to live harmoniously with nature.
The other day, I did some trekking through a canyon in Yamanashi Prefecture. There were many people there, from children to senior citizens.
In the midst of mountain streams, thick forests, wind, sunlight falling through the trees, moss-covered rocks, and the sound of birds singing, I felt life in Nature, and returned fully energized.
To leave the beauties of nature for future generations as well, I hope that we will each increase our awareness of the environment.
We are now approaching the season of crimson foliage. On my next outing, I hope to enjoy a peaceful autumn, forgetting the flow of time in a canyon covered in red and yellow.
Have you enjoyed the 14th issue of our eNewsletter?
Opinions and ideas as well as memories and photos of your days in Japan are welcome. We would be delighted to hear any feedback from you!
The 15th issue of the newsletter is scheduled to issue on Nov 10, 2009.
Don’t miss it!
