Carmen Fabiola Hernandez Perez(Mexico)
*It's been about two years since I left Hiroshima but I still miss it. I've been in Japan from October 2005 to March 2007 and I would say that this period in my life was the happiest and the most memorable part of my life. I miss the autumn leaves and the delicious Japanese noodles. I would like to thank the Japanese government for the wonderful opportunity given to me. I am now a Kumon Instructor here in the Philippines.
Marites D. Mangabat (Philippines)

Dr. Ravindra Kumar Sinha (India)
*Thank you very much for your support and your hearty help when I was in Japan during 2006-2008. I benefit a lot from these two-year-study-in- Japan. Before I went to Japan, I knew little about Japanese Culture and Japanese People. Due to the historical reason, I even did not like something about Japan. But, after touching the Japanese life by living there, I gradually understand something, and I sincerely wish Japanese people and Chinese People can understand each other more and learn from each other. I am a teaching in Zhong Shan University, Due to the working attribute, now I usually introduce the Japanese Culture and Japanese enterprises style to my students instead western style only in the past. I can see that students are very interested in what was going on about our neighbor. I am most grateful to JASSO for your support when I was in Japan. I also keep cooperate with my supervisor on our research. I have learnt a lot from my professor.
Shi Zhuomin (China)
*Thank you very much for the follow-up research program. So I can come to my alma mater (Gunma University) and doing research with appropriate equipments, instruments and also easy to find some information related to my research in this place. My research topic is polymer. At present, I am doing preliminary research, which I hope can be continued in Indonesia.
Meri Suhartini (Indonesia)
*I am very thankful for the winter greeting letter. It really reminds me when I was in Japan for two years. Those years were very exciting for me to have that kind of life in Japan. I was able to experience the culture and the way of life of the Japanese people. And I have chance to visit many popular places in Japan. I am looking forward, if I will go back to Japan again. I would like to thank JASSO for the housing, and the safety. The way they look after us. Please keep up the good works, special thank is going out to Susuki san. Thank you very much for showing loves especially your happy face everyday. Lastly, I also like to thank my professor Tanaka Takeo for being a good professor through the school year, I really miss you and our happy class. One day I hope to see you again.
Carleton Leban (Marshal)

[From the Editor]
A Happy New Year to you all. There is a Japanese New Year’s custom called “kakizome,” in which we write the New Year’s resolutions and words to express happiness in brush strokes. You may have written some words using a brush and “sumi” Chinese ink while you were in Japan. My resolution for this year is “expand perspective.” I intend to extend my antenna longer and wider with a lot of curiosity so that I can send our e-newsletter readers the latest Japanese news and fun topics. If you really pay attention, you may be able to see something exciting in ordinary town streets down which you casually walk daily or the sky you sometimes look up at without definite purposes.
One morning, I was startled to hear “Itterasshai! (Have a good day)” when I bought a canned coffee from a vending machine on my way to the office. The greeting words were said by the vending machine! I replied “Ittekimasu! (Thank you! You, too!)” in spite of myself. I think that by repeating the discovery of something fun or surprising in ordinary things, you will be able to lead the year in better spirits. As for that vending machine, it said “Otsukaresamadesita! (Thank you for the day’s work)” when I bought another canned coffee on my way home from work.
I sincerely hope that the year 2009 will be the time of wonderful findings for all of you.
