Introduction of “Japan Alumni Associations” To Japanese page

Philippine Federation of Japan Alumni (PHILFEJA)

The Annual Shinnenkai (New Year's Party) with Minister M. Kato and Minister S. Shimizu of the Embassy of JapanUnder the initiative and guidance of the late Ambassador Jose S. Laurel III, the Philippine Federation of Japan Alumni (PHILFEJA) was organized on July 19, 1976 to promote Philippine-Japan relations, encourage organizations or groups whose members have studied in Japan in their activities, establish a forum for former students in Japan, and to tie-up and cooperate with other Southeast Asian groups of students who have studied in Japan,

As a Federation, PHILFEJA at present includes the following affiliate members:

(1) Omni Ventures or the Nampo Tokubetsu Ryugakusei which came into being shortly after the end of the Second World War. Fifty-one (51) Filipino scholars in wartime Japan returned to the Philippines to resume their lives as students or young professionals. Sadly, from the original 51 scholars, only 3 are still around but they continue participating in projects initiated by PHILFEJA.

(2) Philippines-Japan Fellows Association (PHILJAFA) which was conceptualized through the efforts of a group of administrators and professors from the Philippine College for Arts ad Trades (PCAT) now the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP). The group consists of recipients of the technical training programs in Japan under the former Overseas Technical Cooperation Agency (OTCA) now the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

(3)Philippine Cultural and Technical Association of Returned Overseas Scholars (PHILCULTAROS) -born 46 years ago out of the desire to develop mutual cooperation and maintain friendship among the former trainees of Association of Technical Scholarships based in Tokyo, Japan and other AOTS Alumni Societies. Today it accounts for about 70 percent of the 10,000 Filipinos who have been trained under the auspices of AOTS.

(4)Philippine Association of the Japanese Government Scholars, PHILAJAMES, Inc - conceived in 1972 by 6 ex-Monbusho scholars, the Association has grown to more than 2,000 members scattered now all over the world. Aside from an active National Chapter, it has five regional Chapters (Northern Luzon based in Baguio, Southern Luzon based in Laguna, Cebu Chapter, Visayas Chapter based in Iloilo and Mindanao Chapter based in Davao City).

(5) Association of Philippine Private Alumni of Japanese Universities (Moto Shihi Ryuakusei Phiripin Kai) or APPAJU - to address the need for a group that will represent Filipino-Japan alumni who studied in Japan not on Japanese Government scholarships, the Association was formed 20 years ago and since its incorporation has undertaken worthwhile activities independently or in cooperation with PHILFEJA.

(6) Organization of Filipinos who Studied and Lived in Japan or SAPILNIP - the organization was actually established in 1942 by Ambassador Jose S. Laurel III who was then serving as Secretary of his father, President Jose P. Laurel. It was after 50 years, however, on the 30th of July 1993, that it was revived by the son of Ambassador Laurel, Mr. Benjamin C. Laurel who is now the present Vice-President of PHILFEJA. It aims to contribute to greater and better relations between Japan and the Philippines.

Atty. E. P. Martinez representing PHILEFJA receives the Award from Foreign Minister Taro Aso during the 2006 Awarding CeremonyThrough the years, PHILFEJA has been undertaking and supporting its member Associations in projects that contribute to the strengthening of Philippine-Japan relations. On its own, it has organized annual lecture forums by foreign and local experts on topics that are of mutual interests to its members. In past Philippine-Japan Festivals, it has sponsored an Exhibit of art works by Filipino artists who have studied in Japanese universities. Although its Grand Reunion in March 2000 was not repeated, PHILFEJA has regularly held an Annual Shinnenkai (New Year's Party) and a General Assembly Meeting every year. The Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, Mr. Ryuichiro Yamazaki mentioned in 2006 that PHILFEJA “has been a staunch forerunner for three decades in the expanding relationship between the Philippines and Japan” and during the 2006 Awarding Ceremony on the occasion of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Day on July 23, 2006 in Commemoration of the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of the Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and the Philippines, PHILFEJA received a Testimonial Award Certificate from Foreign Minister Taro Aso.

In the international scene, it was because of PHILFEJA’s initiative that the organization of alumni from Asian countries, the ASEAN Council of Japan Alumni (ASCOJA) was born. The first ASCOJA Conference was held in Manila in 1977 and it hosted the 4th Conference in 1981, the 9th Conference in 1991 and the 14th Conference in 2001.

The respective Presidents of each member Association take turns every two years in discharging the various positions in the Board. The current President is Mr. Jose Luis Reyes of APPAJU who took his Japanese Language studies at Kokusai Gakuyukai and his undergraduate studies at Tokai University.

Present Address of PHILFEJA is: PHILIPPINES JAPAN ALUMNI CENTER, #823 Sergio H. Loyola St., Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines 1008. Tel. (63-2) 7362714

Waseda University Korea Alumni Association in Busan-Kyungnam

Alumni magazineIt was 1947 when the Waseda University Seoul Alumni Association was established. Its Busan branch was made two years later in 1949. Since then, Busan City was separated from Kyongsang-Namdo and so the current Busan-Kyungnam branch was created. The said association, ever since its foundation, has mainly been conducting goodwill activities with its alma mater such as holding baseball games with Waseda University in Busan.

In 2005, “Waseda University Korea Alumni Association in Busan-Kyungnam Members’ Magazine (premier issue)” was published. Now that we are living in the age of “harmonization and creation,” the association also is promoting activities to move ahead into the new era.

To study and teach the corporate philosophies of “LOTTE,” “SAMSUNG,” and “POSCO” which are leading-edge companies in the economic and cultural fields of Korea, the “WASEDA LOTTE SPIRIT SCHOOL” program is just about to begin. Through this, competent young individuals will be sent to Waseda University where the alumni previously belonged to. Why these three companies have been chosen is because their founders have two things in common: they are from Kyongsang-Namdo, Korea and are Waseda University graduates.

“WASEDA LOTTE SPIRIT SCHOOL” is not a formal school. The Waseda University Korea Alumni Association in Busan-Kyungnam will play a central role in providing economics and management classes in seminar style. This program has been planned based on the objective of passing on the spirit and hard-working stance of the founders of LOTTE, SAMSUNG, and POSCO who are also Waseda University graduates to the young people of Korea. Although such details as tuition and school building are yet to be decided, we are striving non-stop to convey this passionate Waseda spirit to the intelligent youth who will be future leaders of our country.

“LOTTE TOWN” which opened in the central area of Busan in December 2009 is scheduled to become part of the WASEDA LOTTE SPIRIT SCHOOL’s facilities. By using the department store run by LOTTE who boasts the world’s best facilities, structure, and management system, we will consistently promote activities that infuse the young people with the WASEDA LOTTE SPIRIT that have created world-class companies through “hard work.”

Federation of AOTS Alumni Associations of India is a federation of 8 Alumni Associations in India.

Hippo Famili Club VisitIndia’s association with AOTS started in late 1950’s initially, most trainees went to Japan for technical educations / training.. Since 1960’s Japan’s industry developed at a rate that astonished the whole world. Started for ‘technical scholarships’, in 1959, AOTS saw a rapid growth of number of ‘scholars’ from India and also in the variety of subjects. Like manufacturing technology, Japanese management techniques also impressed the world.
AOTS did not lag behind and started offering scholarships for 2~3 weeks training courses in different management techniques. The applicability and benefits of these Japanese techniques met a great response in developing countries and brought great respect to AOTS. Indian managers trained through the program experienced good results when applying these techniques in India.

Today, I am glad to report that managers from almost all parts of India undertake such training. This led to a countrywide network of AOTS Alumni Societies (AAS’s) in India. All the 8 AAS’s came together to form a Federation , Federation of AOTS Alumni Associations of India, New Delhi.
FAAAI has become the window for the Indian industry to learn about Japan’s technology.
Our web site gives a brief account of our activities. In addition, Constituent AAS’s conduct their own courses appropriate to their strengths and available opportunities ?

JL (Japanese Language) teaching, training for Translation, Interpretation activities, social activities such as

Ikebana

(1) Receiving Japanese visitors as guests for home stay, etc . The member societies provide a wide view of the Indian family life in different parts of the country.

(2) Cultural activities such as Ikebana, etc www.ikenobo.jp. This broad interface with Japan fondly takes the ex‐AOTS trainees down their memory lane.

L&T Switchgear Course at Pune(3) Organizing short term industrial training courses in Indian companies for participants from less developed countries from Asia, Africa, such training in India in ‘technological level are very useful to the trainees from various countries. Welding, Switchgear Equipment, etc. have become very popular. These courses are very ‘cost effective’ also.

(4) Provide training to Japanese University students, young engineers in English language basic IT skills (internship) etc. One of our members is in the process of developing JL teaching systems for the Indian student. We hope its basic version will be ready by end 2010.

We welcome suggestions / enquiries to add more Japan related activities to our scope. We request cooperation from JASSO.

Dokkyo University Alumni Association, Shanghai Chapter

The Shanghai Chapter of Dokkyo University Alumni Association is comprised of Japanese graduates of the university and former Chinese or Korean international students who all live and work in Shanghai where fierce business competition continues. We meet once every two or three months to exchange information with each other as well as to spend a relaxing, enjoyable time. Although we began as a small group with only four Japanese upon our foundation, we soon grew into an organization consisting of 36 members within a year. Our group was officially named the Shanghai Chapter of Dokkyo University Alumni Association in December 2008 and as of June 2010, our membership has increased to 54 alumni.

Alumni association in which female member and homecoming international student participated a lotThere are many different types of individuals who are our members such as former Chinese international students starting their businesses in Shanghai as well as alumni who currently are Japanese expats working in this city. There also are those who have come to China, determined to make it their final home. Although we come from different business backgrounds and age groups, the only common factor of being Dokkyo University alumni helps us to easily open up to each other and respect one another’s set of values. Our meetings provide us with opportunities to begin relationships as friends from the same university.

Even though times have changed, we all have many common memories, some bitter and some enjoyable, of studying at Dokkyo University. What did we do and what choices did we make back then? Exchanging such information helps us deepen our understanding as well as build friendships and relationships of trust. We can also feel emotionally revitalized and reenergized by slipping back into our college days.

The birthday meeting which was performed with an alumni reunion

We are Japanese and international students who both have studied at the same university and currently are world citizens working in Shanghai by utilizing our Japanese and Chinese language skills. Some of our members are also multilingual, using both German and English at work which they have learned as college students. For this reason, we are able to share our joys and woes together. We get excited about the same topics because we are alumni of the same university. Here in Shanghai, we are given the chance to reunite with former classmates we studied together with in college or even once again meet older or younger friends from the same club activities. It is truly beyond our imagination how small the world we live in is.

Those who may have initially thought that they were “too old to participate in an alumni reunion” find it a very exciting experience once they attend. “I’m so happy I came. This kind of a meeting is very important” - This is the kind of comment we get from many of the participants. We are always looking for our Dokkyo friends. As long as you live in Shanghai and are a Dokkyo University graduate, you are more than welcome regardless of your nationality or age. Please feel free to contact us anytime.

Ikebana Demonstration & Workshop (at the Japan Trade Fair 2009)3. Ikebana School of JUAAB

The people love to keep flowers in their homes, offices and public places as a part of decoration. The beauty of flower partly depends on its arrangements. The Japanese way of arranging flowers is known as “IKEBANA” which uses mainly fresh flowers, leaves and branches of plants.

The use of artificial and Dry Flowers has also become quite popular these days.

JUAAB has been running a 3-month course on “Ikebana and Dry Flower Making” with the help of two highly experienced Bangladeshi Experts.

The certificate of completion is awarded jointly by JUAAB and the Embassy of Japan.

Occasionally, the School organizes “Ikebana Demonstration” by Japanese and local Experts and also “Ikebana Contest” for the Ikebana lovers of Bangladesh.

The aim of JUAAN is to unite all students who have returned to Nepal from Japan so that the knowledge and skills acquired in Japan are used for the development of the nation. This Association was reorganized in 1996 with its present name for the purpose of expanding its activities. And we are happy to report that our efforts towards this aim have been encouraging.

The relationship between Nepali students and the people of Japan is over a hundred years old, and there are close links between the cultural heritage of Nepal and the traditional Japanese culture through a deep-rooted history that goes back centuries. With this in mind, apart from regular activities in its own field, JUAAN helps to nurture and promote better understanding and friendship between the people of both countries.

Regular Activities
(JUAAN) Ikebana ClassQuarterly Benkyokai (meeting), symposium, Education Fair – Study in Japan, orientation for new Monbukagakusho students, ikebana classes, Japanese film shows, publication of bulletins and cultural programs, are some of the many regular activities JUAAN hold. An annual get-together program is also held, in which all members and many dignitaries participate. More regularly, members actively participate in the Benkyokai – discussing contemporary
Japanese affairs and other Japanese topics of special interest.

JUAAN organized the first meeting of the South Asian Federation of Japanese Universities Alumni Association (SAFJUAA) on March 29, 2005 in which delegates from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India (by mail) participated. The charter of SAFJUAA was drafted and all the member countries and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) formally endorsed it at the 5th Reunion Program (Tsudoi) held in Tokyo, in December 2005. Member countries organize the SAFJUAA annual meeting by rotation.

The second annual SAFJUAA was held in Dhaka in March 2008, the third annual meeting was held in New Delhi, March 2009 and the fourth meeting scheduled in Kathmandu in February 2010. The main aim of SAFJUAA is to establish link among Japanese alumni organizations in the region and to further promote friendship and understanding with Japanese people.

In February 2005, JUAAN opened a Japanese Studies Corner at the Central Library of Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. Books on Japan were donated by the Trust. New books on Japan are being added every year.

Trust Committee:
JUAAN manages the Sakai Lions Club and Imanishi Memorial Fellowship Trust. Annual cash prizes are distributed to Nepali scholars for writing articles on Japan or Nepal-Japan relations. The objective of the Trust is to promote understanding of Japan and friendship among the people of both the countries.

(JUAAN) Sakura Plantation

SAKURA Plantation in Kathmandu
JUAAN, with the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan, planted over one hundred samplings of different varieties of Sakura to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Nepal and Japan on September 1, 2006. The Sakura was donated by the Sakura Association of Japan and with the cooperation of Mr. Tatsuo Morimoto, a tree doctor, of Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture.

In 2001 JUAAN took the initiative in restoring and cleaning the environment of the world heritage site around Changu Narayan Temple. The program was supported by the Embassy of Japan through the Grass Roots Project Scheme.

The 100th Anniversary of Nepali Students in Japan

(JUAAN) The100th anniversary
In 1902 (Meiji 35 nen) the Government of Nepal dispatched a group of eight students to Japan for higher education. Thus, in 2002 JUAAN celebrated the 100th year of Nepali students in Japan with various cultural programs, a symposium and publication of books.

Incidentally, these students were the first Nepali students to go abroad under a government scholarship. In this respect Nepali leaders were among the pioneers to look to the East (Japan) for higher education.

Seeds of wisteria (Fuji-no-hana), chrysanthemum (Kiku), persimmon (Kaki) and chestnut (Kuri) that were brought and sowed a century ago in Kathmandu by those youths still grow and bloom and remain as a lasting testimony to the spirit of the eight youths who took a voyage to Japan and to the generous spirit of Nihon.

These are a few of JUAAN’s activities. Please contact us via e-mail, and we will send other details in subsequent mails.

With those words, the embryonic Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (“JAGAM”) began with 22 Malaysian graduates from different Japanese universities in Mirama Hotel of Kuala Lumpur in 1970. The pro tem committee was led by the late Mr. Yeo Yan Kim and Mr. Gan Kok Eng as President and Secretary General respectively.  Today, JAGAM —a powerful network of 1,171 members— is one of the largest country-alumni association in Malaysia.  Membership in JAGAM is all about pride—pride in being graduates from Japan and in being affiliated with the best alumni association in Malaysia.

Our missions are:

  1. To promote, encourage and foster civic, social and cultural activities amongst members of the Association;
  2. To advise, aid and guide members on their return to Malaysia with respect to opportunities of employment and conditions of employment;
  3. To advise, aid and guide intending students and post-graduate students who will be or are furthering their studies in Japan;
  4. To promote goodwill and better understanding between Malaysia and Japan.

(JAGAM) JAGAM’s annual event, ShinnenkaiConveniently located near the heart of Klang Valley, the JAGAM club house offers nearly 2,000 square feet of space specifically designed for the comfort and enjoyment of our members. In addition, the club house gives JAGAM space in a single location to house its secretariat and to hold activities and functions. JAGAM’s annual events and programs - such as Bonenkai, Shinnenkai, JAGAM Nite and Bon-odori - connect members to each other and to Japanese community in Malaysia.

The JAGAM library at the club house has a comprehensive, easily accessed collection of information on Japan and story books. The library is open to members and public. JAGAM members have been and are still conducting Japanese language classes at the Clubhouse since 1988. Response from the public to the classes has been very good. More than 500 students have since completed the classes on basic and intermediate Japanese language courses. JAGAM also involves in local communities, spreading the spirit of service to those in need.

After their college days have passed, members are still thirsty for knowledge. Our Lifelong Learning provides opportunities for members and also public to attend free talks and seminars on topics ranging from economics, investments, science and engineering, legal and management, healthcare, Japan-Malaysia relations and others.

(JAGAM) Japan Education Fair 2008Besides administrating the EJU examinations and Japan Education Fair, JAGAM provides free counseling, career talks and visits high schools to promote study in Japan. We interact with students leaving for Japan by holding orientation sendoff and other networking activities. In order to foster a better relationship between the youth of Japan and Malaysia, we actively promote and encourage junior students to participate in exchange programs such as ASJA Junior Exchange and Wing Fukuoka Exchange. All the students come back with sweet memories in Japan.

As an active advocate to green society, JAGAM communicate with members through email, Google group, Facebook and our own website. The IT technology enables members to keep abreast of activities, employment opportunities and publications and also offers opportunities for member-to-member connections.

In summary, we believe that our members and friends are truly the heart and soul of the JAGAM and thus we seek to reach, serve and engage all Japan graduates and students; to foster a lifelong intellectual and emotional connection between JAGAM and its members; and to provide Japan-Malaysia relationship with goodwill and support.

Overseas Students Japanese Scholarship Association

One day trip to Emei Lake in Miloli Overseas Students Japanese Scholarship Association - an ideal place to foster friendship among former international students in Japan

An organization comprising members with master’s and doctor’s degrees

Taiwanese who come to Japan to study are not the most numerous in Asia, but, still, more than 1,000 students from the country come to study or on short-training programs in Japan. Once returning home, these former international students often form alumni associations and other related organizations. Unique among them is the Overseas Students Japan Scholarship Alumni, an active organization in which the membership is the largest in Taiwan. All of its members, who studied in various parts of Japan, have either master’s or doctor’s degrees.

This alumni association, as its name suggests, was formed by former Japanese government scholarship students and by Interchange Association scholarship students after diplomatic relations were severed. Its members were scattered throughout Japan, but they got together once a year over a meal sponsored by the Taipei office of the Interchange Association Japan. The occasion has led to more get-togethers. In the beginning, Tsai, Pine-Li, Emeritus Professor and other senior Taiwanese students who studied in Japan organized this annual event. Later, articles of association were formally set in 1988 to re-launch the gathering under the name of the Overseas Students Japanese Scholarship Association. Through the annual membership convention, it offers a place where its members can get to know one another better.

Orientation An ideal place to foster friendship among international students in Japan

To deepen friendship among its members and build mutual support, promote Japan-Taiwan information and culture exchanges, enhance research on Japanese academic achievements, and strengthen friendship between Japan and Taiwan—these are the aims of this organization. To promote friendship and mutual support among members, a membership list is produced, to be renewed every year. Starting in 2000, we began issuing the alumni magazine “ Japanese Overseas Students Magazine” that carries the following: records of study in Japan kept by members and their current activities; opinions based on the observation of the Japanese politics, cultures, economy, and society; information on studying in Japan, Japan-Taiwan relationships, academic activities, and recent trends. A total of 16 editions have already been issued so far; the magazine is regarded as an important record of information and facts for students who are going to study in Japan with scholarships.

In 2006, the Taipei office of the Interchange Association Japan opened a Web site called the “YuYu Campus” (http://www.koryu.or.jp/yuyuc/ez3_contents.nsf/Top), providing a quicker way to access information on studying in Japan and further stimulating exchanges among its members.

Japanese Overseas Students Magazine Today, 2,140 scholarship students in Japan are on the membership list, of whom over 200 take part in the alumni activities, all on a voluntary basis. Some of them who live in distant places come and take part, and others who do not have time support our activities by submitting membership fees and showing interest in Japan-Taiwan information. Many alumni members are active in such professional fields as academia, politics, law, and business. Their activities cover wide areas in society where they are appreciated for their tangible contributions. Some of them are asked to take important government positions for their expertise and experiences of studying in Japan.

Efforts to further strengthen Japan-Taiwan ties

Member Convention This alumni association has 20 years of history. Since his appointment as its chairman, Henry Hau-Min Rai, Attorney at Law has executed his busy duties with a sense of mission and passion toward promoting Japan-Taiwan exchanges and helping international students in Japan. He also has offered to use his Taiwanese law firm, Formosa Transnational Attorneys at Law , as a liaison office. His volunteer spirit has brought other directors together for the association to function as a united group. With their efforts, the association has grown to the current size.

We hold the national convention each year to deepen friendship among our members and study-in-Japan seminar to convey the experiences of former students who once studied in Japan. We also issue a magazine recording these facts twice a year and take our members on a trip from time to time. Since 2000, we have been supporting the annual Japan Education Fair at the invitation of the Japan Student Services Organization. Last year, our members began providing lodgings in Taiwan, free of charge, to the trainees of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, contributing to international exchanges in daily activities.

As has been mentioned above, this organization makes every attempt to utilize what students learned in Japan and deepen Japan-Taiwan ties so that it can serve as an important bridge between the two countries.

Jordan Japan Academic Society (JJAS) <Jordan >

Japanese Ambassador Mr. Koichi OBATA and his wife (in the middle) in a family photo of JJAS inauguration ceremony.

First I would like to express my deep thanks the editorial board of JASSO eNewsletter for giving us this opportunity to introduce our alumni.

The Jordan-Japan Academic Society (JJAS) was established on the 4th of March 2004, under the patronage of his Excellency the Japanese ambassador to Jordan at that time Mr. Koichi OBATA. Mr. OBATA described it as new Jordan – Japan friendship association and pointed that it would actively contribute to the development of the country and also in the enhancement of the relationship between two countries. In fact it took us more than a year of continuous meetings and discussions to finalize the constitution of JJAS. In this regard I should, here on behalf of my colleagues in JJAS, admire the efforts of the Japanese embassy staff for their help and support.

In Jordan the ordinary peoples has very good feelings and admiration toward Japan and Japanese people. It is usual to hear in the Jordanians say the word “perfect as Japanese.” But there is a lack of information about the two nations, in this regard we who graduated from Japanese universities and lived in Japan have the responsibility to introduce or act as a bridge between our two civilizations and nations.

Therefore, JJAS is aiming upon its establishment at promoting good relations between Jordan and Japan mainly in the academic field, and then to provide and facilitate social and cultural activities. Besides that, JJAS is aiming at promoting scientific; technologies education exchange between the two countries, as well as to provide the opportunities for JJAS members to meet with their counter parts in other organizations and institutions in both countries.

H.E Mr. Kato, Ambassador of Japan in Jordan, and Cultural attache Mr. Yamashita, President of JJAS, Dr. Matouq. We in JJAS have many activities such as proposal for Japanese teaching sponsorship, facilitation and arrangement for those in academic Japanese from Japan who are conducting research in Jordan in any field of science. JJAS had already facilitated the state and help of some academic from Japanese universities, in the field of politics, education and social science. Exchange ideas and participate in all activities conducted by Japanese embassy in Jordan mainly the cultural activities. Exchange ideas and participate with Japanese youth parliament mission to Jordan. JJAS has its member in the Monbusho candidates screening committee. Besides that JJAS is introducing Japanese cultural and customs to Jordanian people in different local media like local newspaper and magazine. And it gives any advice and consultation upon request for any Jordanian interested in Japan related issues and academic career. Moreover, JJAS dispatch its members to deliver lectures to introduce Jordan culture, customs, and some daily live hints for survival in Jordan to JICA seniors and junior volunteers. Also it has a regular member in the committee for annual Japanese language speech contest. JJAS has helped distributing and facilitating the questionnaire conducted in Japan via email to all its members for a PhD study about Middle East. JJAS is recently working on initiating a scholarship program between Jordanian Universities for Japanese students who want to study in Jordan in Arabic and Islamic majors. JJAS members, regularly participate in the official Japanese events held in Jordan, like national holidays. JJAS held annual general assembly meeting for all members under the support of Japanese Embassy in Amman.

However, there are some obstacles facing us, which are mainly the small number of members, this cause no regular income, thus we lack the place, too. In trying to solve this problem we suggested an annual membership fee. Moreover, JJAS request to be in the mailing list of the Japanese foreign ministry for future events and activities and opportunities.

We asked to invite JJAS to play a role in any consultation for research related to Middle East and Jordan in particular in the fields of economy, industry, cultural, and academic. And to recognize JJAS as coordinators and facilitators any Japanese official missions upon the request and collaboration with Japanese Embassy.

At the end we have a lot of ambitions such as stress on the role of JJAS in tighten the relationship between Jordan and Japan, through academic and cultural exchange. In fact the Monbusho graduates are the true Japanese ambassadors to Jordan, because they can easily transfer the knowledge and bridging the cultural gap between the two nations. We are looking to initiate a regional cooperation and coordination between JJAS and similar societies in the Middle East countries. In fact we are looking for regional alumni association for the Middle East or west Asian countries alumni’s.
