In a rapidly changing social and economic climate, there is a need for universities to provide well-designed education and guidance for the diversifying body of students. JASSO gives comprehensive assistance to the wide range of support activities that universities implement for their students.
JASSO provides information concerning many aspects of student support through various media such as the Internet and printed publications. It also constructs databases on student support and collects and analyzes examples of activities that are beneficial for student support in order to contribute to the activities that each university conducts in support of students. Information is gathered effectively and efficiently through various training programs.
In conjunction with MEXT and its Council on Employment Issues, JASSO jointly sponsors the "Nationwide Career Guidance Meeting" with the aim of improving career guidance and ensuring equal employment opportunities. At this meeting, universities and companies exchange information on careers and employment for those scheduled to graduate from universities etc.
JASSO supports student volunteer activities through various programs and by fostering connections between universities and volunteer organizations. Each regional office conducts 'Volunteer Experience Program' and 'Student Volunteer Activity Seminars' aimed at giving students opportunities for volunteer activities. The 'Meeting for the Support and Promotion of Student Volunteer Activities' is held annually for university staff and volunteer organizations. In addition, volunteer guidebooks for students and university staff are also published to provide information on student volunteer activities.
Systematic training programs have been developed in order to enhance the skills and training of university staff, responsible for student guidance. Training workshops are held on a scale of the whole nation or a region in cooperation with relevant institutions.
Student passes are distributed to universities to reduce the transport costs required by students for their schooling, thus making it easier for students to study while also supporting and assisting school education.
