Residence Hall Entrance Guide to Japanese page


1. Composition of residents to be accepted

International students: about 70 percent of the total
Japanese resident assistants: about 20 percent of the total
Researchers: about 10 percent of the total

2. Qualification for residence

International students International students who are enrolled in postgraduate school of Japanese universities or research students with equivalent study level of outstanding, have "college student " visa status, and can commute from the TIEC to the universities.
Japanese resident assistant Japanese students enrolled in postgraduate school of Japanese universities who can commute from the TIEC and can give advice and guide to international students in their living and studying, as well as take active roles in international exchange programs.
Researchers Foreign researchers
Outstanding foreign researchers who register to Japanese universities or research institutes, have “professor”, “researcher” or “cultural activities” visa status, can commute from the TIEC to the universities or institutes, and applicable to one of the followings:
a. A foreign researcher in the postdoctoral fellowship program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
b. A foreign researcher in the invitation fellowship program of the JSPS (long-term)
c. A foreign researcher (excluding full-time staff of a university or research institute) with a Ph.D degree at the time of application and who received this degree less than six years ago.
Japanese researchers
JSPS postdoctoral research fellows (PD) register a Japanese university or research institute who are able to commute from the residence hall of the TIEC.

3. Period of Residence

Until March 31, 2012

If a resident have lived in other international houses set up by JASSO as follows or the TIEC before, that period of residence will be included in this 2 years.

4. Rent and other expenses

Entrance fee:
Additional payment of one month’s rent as an entrance fee (non-returnable) is required.

International Students ¥35,000 monthly
Japanese resident assistants / Researchers ¥52,500 monthly

 

Residence Hall B

International Students ¥45,000 monthly
Japanese resident assistants / Researchers ¥67,500 monthly

 

Residence Hall C

International Students ¥65,000 monthly
Japanese resident assistants / Researchers ¥97,500 monthly

 

Residence Hall D

International Students ¥75,000 monthly
Japanese resident assistants / Researchers ¥112,500 monthly


Utilities and Telephone charge:
Residents must pay for their actual expenses by pre-paid system.

5. Admission method

  1. Assigned Application
    Most of rooms are allocated to the designated universities and research institutes as assigned rooms, an application from those universities and research institutes is acceptable at any time by the recommendation from each university or research institute.

    Note: (*)   Room for Japanese resident assistant is also allocated.

  2. General application
    When a certain number of rooms are vacant, TIEC will notify admission events for General Application to the universities and institutes, at same time will post the admission outline on our homepage. (Scheduled as nearly once in every 3 months)

6. Procedure of application

Applicants submit required documents and application forms through your host universities / institutes.

Direct apply to the TIEC is not acceptable.
