Result of TIEC International Symposium 2010
Globalization in East Asia and the Future of University Education to Japanese page

  1. Title of the Symposium
“Globalization in East Asia and the Future of University Education”
  2. Aims
In an increasingly globalized world, university education has embarked on an era of qualitative change. Universities today must explore exchanges across national borders, not only among faculty members but at every level, from sending students abroad to offering double degree programs with overseas partners and teaching courses in a variety of languages.
Universities earlier pursued internationalization in the form of encouraging their students and researchers to go abroad by expanding and improving language teaching and foreign study programs. More recently, as outbound globalization has gained momentum, they have made it their educational goal to develop global leaders with an international perspective, on the one hand by attracting foreign scholars who will share their work with students on domestic campuses, and on the other by sending more of their own students to meet and measure themselves against their peers abroad, both inside and outside the classroom.
Against this background, the Symposium will examine how future exchanges in university teaching and research should be promoted. Focusing on East Asia as a region at the forefront of globalization, researchers actively engaged in exchange projects of this type in Japanese, U.S., Chinese, Korean, and other universities will come together to report on the current state of progress and results achieved, and to envision the future of university education and research.
