Learning objectives (Japanese Language Education Committee (JLEC) standard)

List of skills and levels concerning Japanese language proficiency

The JLEC standard divides into skills and abilities Japanese language proficiency aimed for by students of the Japanese Language Education Center. It largely corresponds to the progress of class-work, the standard number of lesson hours, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and Japanese language proficiency exams.

・Objective – Be able to read simple and short sentences
・Content – Be able to read simple sentences mainly using hiragana script

・Objective – Be able to listen to and understand very basic information needed for everyday living
・Content – Be able to understand simple instructions/explanations in class / be able to listen to and understand basic information needed for everyday and school life / be able to understand content including places, people and simple shapes and forms / be able to give a simple self-introduction

[Second half of beginner level / speaking (exchange)]
・Objective – Be able to make simple greeting and basic conversation
・Content – Be able to make simple greeting and answer simple questions / be able to make basic conversation about familiar issues / be able to complete simple errands at stores and the post office, etc. / be able to make conversation needed for school life
