Overseas administration and taking the EJU outside your nation of residence

Q. Is the EJU offered outside of Japan?

A. The EJU is offered in 17 cities in the following 13 countries and regions.

For details on EJU examination sites in each city, refer to the following “EJU Overseas Representatives.”

Q. Is the EJU offered in China?

A. The EJU has been offered in Hong Kong since the second session of the 2010 examination. Please direct inquiries concerning application procedures in Hong Kong to the following EJU Overseas Representative (Hong Kong).

Q. Is the EJU offered in the United States, Europe and Africa?

A. At present, the EJU is not offered in the United States, Europe or the Africa region. This is because the majority of EJU examinees are from countries in East Asia or Southeast Asia, with only an extremely limited number coming from the U.S., Europe or Africa.

Q. If the EJU is not offered in my own country, may I take the exam in another country?

A. Yes, this is possible if the following conditions are satisfied.

Q. Although I live outside of Japan, may I take the EJU at an examination site located in Japan?

A. Yes, this is possible. However, because examination vouchers can only be mailed to addresses in Japan, you will need to arrange for a representative living in Japan to receive the voucher on your behalf. For details on the application procedures, please refer to the following website page.

Q. May I arrange for the documents required for visa applications to be issued by JASSO?

A. Neither JASSO or any of the EJU Overseas Representatives are able to issue the documents required to apply for visas to enter Japan. The only document we can issue by the date of the examination is the “examination voucher.” Therefore, please confirm the specific documents required to apply for a visa with the nearest overseas Japanese diplomatic mission (Embassy, Consulate-General, etc.).
